Eat dinner early, live long: Eating dinner at 7pm linked to longer life, study finds

The impact of lifestyle choices on health and longevity is a well-established concept that includes exercise, sleep patterns, and eating habits.

A study published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition makes an interesting connection between eating dinner early and potentially living longer.

The research was conducted on La Villa, a province in Abruzzo, Italy, which is known for its high population of non-seniles (people aged 90-99 years) and centenarians (people over 100 years old). By examining 68 people from this region, this study sheds light on their dietary patterns, especially the timing of evening meals.

Early dinner and calorie diet

Surprisingly, most non-elderly and centenarians in La Quila ate their dinner early, usually around 7:13 p.m.

The researchers dug deeper and discovered a distinctive diet with a calorie-restricted pattern. These people kept their calorie intake low for a significant period of time, and it took 17.5 hours from dinner to lunch the next day.

Approach to the front of the plant

Participants in the survey demonstrated a diet rich in grains, vegetables, fruits, and legumes. On the contrary, consumption of meat, processed meat, eggs and sweets was significantly lower.

This plant-forward approach aligns with patterns often associated with increased well-being and longevity.

“Our results support the importance of reducing daily caloric restriction, preventing nocturnal postprandial stress, and optimizing the metabolic response associated with high consumption of plant-based foods and physical activity for longevity in Abruzzo centenarians,” the scientists added.

Beyond dietary habits, centenarians and centenarians in Laquila lived an active lifestyle by personally caring for their land.

This participation in physical activity, along with their distinct dietary choices, contributes to a broader understanding of lifestyle factors influencing longevity.

As the L’Aquila study shows, eating dinner early and adopting certain dietary habits may contribute to increased longevity.
