Costco membership gives you access to many great deals that can help you keep more money in your bank account. Beyond just buying cereal in bulk or large bottles of ketchup, you can also use your credit cards to buy vacations, jewelry, and even cars at Costco.
Costco offers another important member benefit that could make joining the warehouse club even more attractive. Here’s what it is.
Costco will offer low-cost medical visits to its members
Costco will soon be a destination for medical care, as well as Kirkland Signature products and its famous $1.50 hot dog and soda combo.
The warehouse club has partnered with Sesame, an online health marketplace that aims to provide affordable care to people without insurance or with high insurance deductibles. Through this partnership, Costco members will be able to book in-person or virtual visits for medical care at a very low cost, provided they are willing to pay cash for their services instead of using insurance coverage disease.
Costco members will have access to “Sesame’s Best Prices” in all 50 states. This allows Warehouse Club users to:
- A virtual primary care visit for $29
- A $72 health assessment, which includes completion of a standard laboratory panel and follow-up with a provider via virtual visit
- A virtual mental health therapy visit for $79
- 10% off in-person appointments booked through Sesame (in-person visits are also affordable: for example, a Baltimore doctor offers a visit for just $74 to Costco members)
- 10% off other Sesame services
Costco members who want to take advantage of this benefit can go to the Costco website, enter their email address and arrange a visit with a supplier. In many cases, it is possible to get a visit the same day, or even on weekends or outside of normal business hours.
Do you have to join Costco to take advantage of this new perk?
Many people have difficulty accessing health care, especially if they don’t have good insurance. If you don’t have health insurance at all or have a very high deductible, you may be able to benefit from the Costco/Sesame partnership.
However, you are taking a huge risk if you do not have insurance coverage. So the first step, if you have no policy, should be to visit HealthCare.gov and review your options to make sure. Not having coverage could lead to financial disaster if you get sick, and there are grants available for those who struggle to afford insurance costs. Health care open enrollment runs from November 1, 2023 to January 15, 2024, so now is a good time to start thinking about getting covered.
If you have insurance but a very high deductible, or can’t get coverage for some reason, it’s worth using Sesame Benefits if you’re already a Costco member.
If you areSo, there’s no reason to join the warehouse club just to get access to these perks, because you can simply schedule an appointment directly through Sesame without paying the added costs of a Costco membership. You’d pay a little more without Costco discounts (about $8 more for an in-person visit and about $9 or $10 more for telehealth). But unless you go to the doctor often, that’s not enough to justify Costco membership fees (which start at $60 a year).
If you’re unsure if Costco could provide you with enough value and may need to pay cash for some medical care, then this new partnership with Sesame definitely sweetens the deal.
