Do you have old or expired prescription medications cluttering your medicine cabinet? Do not simply throw these bottles in the trash or flush medications down the toilet. Instead, take them Saturday to one of dozens of national prescription drug take-back days sponsored by the DEA.
According to the DEA, old prescription drugs left in medicine cabinets have helped fuel the opioid crisis, and the majority of people who become addicted to opioids get their medications from a family member or friend.
Although some medications can be flushed down the toilet, according to the FDA, and there are protocols for properly disposing of your medications, the DEA says it’s best to bring unused medications on designated collection days.
The federal agency is hosting the 25th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at thousands of locations across the country on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
