Selena Gomez has been so honest and vulnerable with the public about her mental health, and it has inspired so many people to follow her lead.

On October 4, the Monte Carlo star hosted its first annual Rare Impact Fund benefit to help raise money for mental health organizations. Her fund has worked with brands like FOCUS (Families OverComing Under Stress), Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services, and many others, often providing grants and donations.

At the event at Nya Studios in Hollywood, via MSN, she noted that starting the fund was “probably the most important thing I’ve ever done.” During her speech, she said this lifelong dream “stemmed from some of the darkest moments of my life.” She said: “I struggled with the world in my head for a long time and felt lost and sometimes hopeless. And in 2020, I received my diagnosis of bipolar disorder. And to be honest, everything changed quickly.

“With this knowledge, I was able to seek the support I needed to be myself and find my joy again,” she said. “And tonight I’m very proud to say that I did it and I worked very hard every day and I’m so happy to be alive and to be here with you today.”

Gomez is one of the few celebrities who has opened up about her bipolar disorder, talking about what happens when someone is diagnosed, the highs, the lows, and much more.

In the last year alone, about 2.8 percent of American adults were diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which the NIMH describes as “dramatic changes in mood, energy, and activity levels that affect a person’s ability to perform daily tasks.

Now, please see your psychiatrist for a diagnosis if you think you have bipolar disorder, and if you do, you will need to do one or more of the following, such as a physical exam, psychiatric evaluation, mood survey and more , according to the Mayo Clinic.

We love that Gomez was vulnerable in her journey, and we also love that she was able to create her lifelong dream: a mental health fund that is clearly changing the world of mental health.
