‘It looks illegal’: Starbucks barista adds blueberries to drink orders so he can get them for free

A Starbucks barista has revealed that she orders blueberries with all her drinks at the coffee chain so she can have them for free.

This information comes from Lauren (@chimmminnie@chimmminnie), the creator of Washington State, which has collected over 48,400 views in its first day on the platform. Lauren was previously featured on the Daily Dot in a September story where she was making Dr. Pepper’s Espresso Shake. The drink caused controversy, including some who feared customers would ask baristas to make the time-consuming and complicated drink.

This time, using Olivia Rodrigo’s “The Biggest Lie” line, “Bad idea right?”, she reveals via caption on the TikTok page: “I add blueberries to every drink to get them free ” For its soundtrack

A different caption on the screen at the end of the short video carries another complaint: “And handing out free food to whoever switched avocados.”

The caption, which refers to free blueberries, adds: “This sounds illegal (I just like blueberries ok).

Although several commenters were excited, Lauren posted a big warning in the comments.

“Disclaimer,” he wrote. “Free for partners only.”

Still, as one said, “Can you ring a blueberry in a drink? This is dangerous information” and added: “Don’t tell teenagers.”

“I think they have to pay an extra $1.25 for blueberries, so most people don’t want to,” Lauren replied.

“Yes, they are approved to be placed in Frappuccinos according to the beverage source manual,” said another.

Blueberries at Starbucks have been a past topic on TikTok. According to a Daily Dot story published in February, a creator reported the blueberry packaging was similar to the one Lauren featured in her video.

But that creator claimed that blueberries are being retailed far more than they should be. The customer in the video claimed it was crazy why Starbucks would sell blueberries but like 3 blueberries for $10. But another denied the claim, saying: “We don’t sell them separately at my store,” adding that it’s an add-on “for blueberry oatmeal.”

In fact, on Starbucks’ online menu, blueberries are available as an add-on to Rolled & Steel-Cut Oatmeal, but they don’t appear to be available for purchase as a separate item.

The Daily Dot has reached out to the creator through TikTok’s comment.
